Paco Romane

For more than two decades, Paco Romane has quietly become one of the most respected and versatile comedians to emerge from the San Francisco comedy scene. A two-time Bay Area “Best Comedian” winner, Romane has built a career that seamlessly bridges stand-up, sketch comedy, television, film, voice acting, writing, producing, and podcasting—all while cultivating a fiercely loyal audience through his singular brand of improvisational, story-driven comedy.

Known for his razor-sharp wit, lightning-fast crowd work, and effortlessly likable stage presence, Romane has developed a style that critics have called “smart, silly, fast, and funny.” His performances blend spontaneous improvisation with deeply personal storytelling, allowing every show to become a one-of-a-kind experience. Whether riffing with audience members or weaving unbelievable true stories into elaborate comedic narratives, Romane has earned a reputation as one of comedy’s most naturally gifted live performers.

Twice voted Best Comedian by San Francisco Weekly and the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Romane has become a fixture at many of America’s premier comedy venues. He is a passed regular at legendary clubs including the San Francisco Punch Line, Sacramento Punch Line, Cobb’s Comedy Club, Rooster T. Feathers, and the San Jose Improv, while also headlining clubs and theaters across the country.

His television career has included appearances on Comedy Central, HBO, NBC, Drunk History, The Eric Andre Show, Nickelodeon, Funny or Die, and numerous NPR programs. Behind the scenes, Romane expanded into television writing, contributing to Netflix’s Norm Macdonald Has a Show, bringing his signature comedic voice to one of stand-up’s most revered comics.

Romane’s talents extend well beyond stand-up. As an actor, he has appeared in the Academy Award-winning film Milk and has been featured in dozens of national commercials for brands including IBM, VISA, Comcast, Chevron, Webex, Subway, Applebee’s, 7-Eleven, and Outback Steakhouse. His voice has become instantly recognizable to millions through his work as the voice of Pandora Radio, along with campaigns for Roku, Pixar projects, video games, films, and national advertising campaigns.

Throughout his career, Romane has shared the stage with many of comedy’s biggest names, including Robin Williams, Norm Macdonald, Ali Wong, Nate Bargatze, Maria Bamford, Hasan Minhaj, Margaret Cho, Bobcat Goldthwait, Dana Gould, Todd Glass, Moshe Kasher, Roy Wood Jr., Kevin Pollak, Josh Blue, Kyle Kinane, James Adomian, and members of Kids in the Hall. These collaborations have cemented his reputation as a comic equally comfortable alongside comedy legends and today’s biggest headliners.

His impact on the San Francisco comedy community reaches far beyond performing. As producer and creator of the acclaimed live showcases The Romane Event and The Charm Offensive, Romane helped launch and showcase hundreds of comedians while creating two of the city’s most beloved independent comedy institutions. His influence also extends into sketch comedy, where he performed, wrote, directed, and produced with the acclaimed troupe Killing My Lobster, in addition to Richter Scale, Duggan and Romane, and numerous original productions.

Festival audiences have come to know Romane as a familiar face at SF Sketchfest, where he has appeared over fifteen times, as well as Outside Lands, San Francisco Comedy Day, the Vancouver Comedy Festival, Gulf Coast Comedy Festival, SF Fringe Festival, and numerous comedy festivals throughout North America. In 2023, he finished fourth in the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition, once again demonstrating the consistency and longevity of his career.

Away from the stage, Romane has continued to evolve as a creator. He co-created and hosts the long-running documentary podcast Sup Doc, interviewing comedians, filmmakers, musicians, and artists about the documentaries that shaped them. His curiosity, warmth, and encyclopedic knowledge of comedy and pop culture have made the show a favorite among creative professionals.

Romane’s creative résumé is remarkably diverse. He has performed alongside hip-hop icon E-40, appeared in commercials with NBA champion Klay Thompson, been thrown through a window by Mr. T, moderated live panels with Dana Gould, participated in sold-out stage readings of cult classics, including Shakes the Clown and Plan 9 From Outer Space, and has built a digital audience of more than 60,000 followers across social media.
